Do I have to submit a Gift to the Grad application?

You do not have to complete a special application. You are eligible for the Gift to the Grad when ASHA receives your membership and certification application between May 1 and August 31.

What is the difference between the GTTG and the NSSLHA-to-ASHA Conversion Discount?

The GTTG is an ASHA benefit that gives students entering the profession up to 20 months of ASHA membership for the price of 12 months. The NSSLHA-to-ASHA Conversion Discount is an ASHA benefit for students who maintain 2 consecutive years of national membership with NSSLHA. Students who qualify for the Conversion Discount receive a reduction of $225 off the initial dues and fees of ASHA membership and certification. A student with the Conversion Discount may also qualify for the GTTG to receive an additional 20 months of membership at the time of application. That is a savings of $450.

Are students who graduate with a doctoral degree eligible for the GTTG?

Yes, any graduate who applies for ASHA membership and certification between May 1 and August 31 is eligible for the GTTG.

When is the best time to apply for the GTTG?

You must apply between May 1 and August 31 to receive the benefit of the GTTG program. Applications received from January 1 through April 30, 2013, will receive membership and certification through December 31, 2013. Applications received from September 1 through December 31, 2013, will receive membership and certification through December 31, 2014.

Note: If you graduated in 2012, the last day to apply for your NSSLHA to ASHA conversion rate is August 31, 2013.

Should I wait until I am done with my clinical fellowship (CF)/externship to apply for ASHA membership and certification?

You do not have to wait until you complete your CF/externship to apply for ASHA membership and certification. Consider the timing of your CF/externship before you decide when to apply. Remember that your application has to be received between May 1 and August 31. Once you apply for membership and certification, you become an "ASHA member in process" and will have access to all ASHA membership benefits.

If I am applying to ASHA, do I have to renew my NSSLHA membership to get the GTTG?

You do not have to renew your membership in NSSLHA to get the GTTG. The GTTG is a benefit for students applying for ASHA membership and certification.

Do I have to be a NSSLHA member to qualify for the GTTG?

You do not have to be a NSSLHA member to qualify for the Gift to the Grad. You have to submit your application between May 1 and August 31 to receive up to 20 months of membership for the price of 12. However, the largest monetary benefit is earned by those students who complete two years of consecutive NSSLHA membership.

Can I send my application on August 31 and still be eligible?

Your application for membership and certification must be received by ASHA by August 31 to receive the GTTG. Applications received on or after September 1 (regardless of postmark date) are not eligible.
