Thickening Liquids

Treatment Tip

We use gel-based thickeners in our facility and have found that there was a lack of follow through thickening the liquids because they would not whisk. So we started using a shaker-top UA (urine analysis) cup that is easily accessible on the nursing floors. It holds exactly 4 oz. and is labeled "to thicken liquids only." We now have a much higher rate of compliance because it works well and the nurses love it!
