This issue of Perspectives focuses on current topics in aural rehabilitation. First, authors discuss what to consider when mapping young children who have simultaneous/ sequential bilateral cochlear implants. The second article describes five clinical, administrative, and practical lessons important in building a cochlear implant practice. We round out this issue by describing three tools that can enhance collaborative self-management of hearing problems.
Learning Outcomes You will be able to:
- identify indications of binaural interference in simultaneous or consecutive bilateral cochlear implants in pediatric patients, and discuss mapping strategies to eliminate this potential problem
- summarize clinical, administrative, and practical issues associated with the start-up of a cochlear implant program
- summarize the purpose and utility of clinical tools developed at the Ida Institute that promote a patient-centered approach in providing audiologic services
