Representation of Services for Insurance Reimbursement, Funding, or Private Payment

Speech-language pathologists and audiologists are confronted on a daily basis with challenges to providing quality care in a reimbursement environment that is ever-changing. This program is designed to provide you with effective strategies to assist in overcoming these challenges—the relevant rules of the ASHA Code of Ethics as they pertain to reimbursement issues, information on compliance principles and ethical principles, and behaviors that may result in an ethical quandary (e.g., audiology bundling of services, response to gifts and gratuities, using a reimbursable code for services that are not covered, billing practices for Medicaid funding in the schools).

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • identify at least three behaviors that may result in an ethics challenge or charge
  • cite the relevant principles of ethics and the rules governing ethical behavior
  • outline a framework for evaluating ethical issues
  • describe Medicare and Medicaid rules for reimbursement in a variety of applicable environments, such as schools, hospitals, and home care
  • differentiate compliance from ethics
