These articles present intervention strategies for addressing the functional communication needs of children with severe disabilities. Strategies include teaching children to reject or avoid nonpreferred items, to use socially acceptable communication to replace challenging behaviors, maintenance of communication behaviors, and to repair communication breakdowns.
