This audio self-study presents a procedure, successfully utilized in a public school system for the past eight years, for interdisciplinary teams addressing dysphagia in schools. In addition to a rationale for schools to adopt similar systems, information is provided on how a school system might structure a team, and the importance of school system support. The procedure addresses initial identification of students, evaluation (including referrals for modified barium swallow studies), design of a dysphagia/swallow plan, and a therapeutic plan. Team members’ roles are discussed, including the importance of parents as active team members. The session also provides information related to health and medical issues, to assist in linking medical teams and school teams and securing nutrition guidelines.
