Audiologists are now working with increasing numbers of clients with cultural and linguistic backgrounds different from their own. This program highlights some of the factors that surround cultural difference and suggest ways to modify your practice to respond to the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the families with which you work. Information addresses cultural competence, assessing cultural awareness, modifying case history and audiologic assessment, training and using interpreters, cultural inclusion in aural rehabilitation, and cultural approaches for the audiologist.
You will be able to: - Identify cultural diversity issues
- Examine your cultural competence
- Assess your need for an interpreter
- Implement a framework to incorporate cultural competence into your facility’s policies and practices
