Collaboration among hearing healthcare professionals is never more important than in the identification, diagnosis, and management of difficult auditory disorders. This audio self-study presents case studies on four such pathologies: congenital atresia and stenosis of the external auditory canal, objective tinnitus, large vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS), and sudden idiopathic hearing loss.
Learning Outcomes You will be able to:
- discuss the definitions, identification methods, evaluation protocols, management strategies, and expected outcomes for congenital atresia of the external auditory canal, objective tinnitus, LVAS, and sudden idiopathic hearing loss
- implement a collaborative framework between otolaryngologists and audiologists for addressing the hearing healthcare needs of patients and their families
- identify barriers between hearing healthcare professionals in the management of difficult auditory disorders and apply strategies to overcome such barriers
- specify cost-containment strategies that improve patient outcomes using a cooperative model
