Clinical Issues When Assessing African American Children: ASHA Readings
Many speech-language pathologists and audiologists struggle with identifying communication disorders in culturally and linguistically diverse children. Difficulties with appropriate diagnosis and service delivery are due to a paucity of assessment tools, treatment materials, and needed information.
This compendium of readings addresses service delivery and the African American population, specifically African American children. It contains a series of articles that focuses on assessment tools and procedures as well as key ASHA papers and related reading lists. This information will also assist advocacy efforts when consulting with and when educating other professionals in schools and hospitals and when negotiating roles, policies, programs, and personnel at the local and state levels.
