We all struggle with the patient who complains of hearing difficulty in multiple settings. These patients may require alternative technologies to hearing aids to assist them in receiving and understanding speech amidst noise and reverberation, as well as over the telephone. Furthermore, they may need auxiliary technologies to alert them to certain sounds such as the doorbell or the fire alarm. This presentation will provide you with a needs assessment flow chart to help you quickly and accurately assess a patient’s receptive communications needs, so that you can recommend appropriate options.
Learning Outcomes You will be able to:
- assess and summarize each of your patient’s unique receptive communication needs
- determine what technology would be most appropriate for meeting these needs
- assess how to best couple auditory technology to your patients’ hearing aids
- prescribe a treatment plan incorporating assistive technology and training
