Mardi Gras World East
Saturday, November 21, 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
Mardi Gras in New Orleans is famous for its colorful parades and parties. Although you may not be able to attend the actual event in November, you'll be able to experience some of the special New Orleans spirit during the ASHA Closing party at Mardi Gras World East.
The new Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World facility on the eastern bank of New Orleans occupies what was formerly the Delta Queen Steamboat wharf on the New Orleans riverfront, and is just upstream from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. It is more than four times larger than the old Mardi Gras World facility in Algiers on New Orleans' West Bank.
Kern Studios is the largest builder of parade floats in the world. Most of the krewes (Carnival clubs) in New Orleans and the surrounding area—including the three largest Mardi Gras parades—have their floats designed and built there, along with the props and other decorations that adorn the floats. Some of the so-called "super floats," which can be two or three regular sized floats joined together, can hold anywhere from 50–100 riders.
At the Closing Party, you'll have the opportunity to see some of the largest floats from the most well-known parades, as well as other parade props. After walking through the float area, guests will proceed to the Mansion of the Oaks for light hors d'oeuvres and drinks. The Mansion is a simulated old plantation with a garden and starry sky ceiling.
Plan now to join your friends and colleagues to say farewell and enjoy the fun of Mardi Gras. Tickets are limited but complimentary to registrants and $25 for guests. Order your ticket on the Convention registration form.
