Assessing Children Who Speak Spanish: Milestones in Spanish Grammar Development
Discover the patterns of grammar development in young Spanish-speaking children between the ages of 2 and 5. This seminar addresses ways in which language contact situations may affect Spanish-speaking children’s grammatical development. Strategies for developing sound assessment procedures for Spanish grammar in young children (both typical and atypical learners) are presented.
You will be able to:
- identify major developmental milestones in the acquisition of Spanish grammar by young children learning Spanish as a native language
- describe areas of deficit in grammatical skill of Spanish-speaking children with language learning deficits, in particular children identified as presenting specific language impairment
- develop assessment materials that focus on areas of Spanish grammar relevant to the evaluation of these skills in young Spanish-speaking children
- identify sociolinguistic variables that may affect grammatical development in Spanish-speaking children in language contact situations
