This self-study explores the evidence base for several issues pertaining to speech sound disorders and their treatment.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

• determine whether to select stimulable or nonstimulable sounds as treatment targets
• describe evidence concerning oral motor exercises in the treatment of speech sound disorders
• use cognitive science and linguistic theory to assist in selecting speech sound targets
• describe computer applications for speech sound assessment and intervention
• apply phonological awareness instruction to treatment of children with speech sound disorders
