Assessing the effectiveness of school-based personnel is a critical issue in the school community. To help, many states and school districts are implementing value added assessments (VAA) that use the results of students’ scores on high-stakes testing. This approach, however, may not accurately assess an SLP’s contributions. As a result, ASHA has developed an alternative for SLPs: the Performance Assessment of Contributions and Effectiveness of Speech-Language Pathologists (PACE).

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

• define and describe value added assessments (VAA)
• describe the Performance Assessment of Contributions and Effectiveness of Speech-Language Pathologists (PACE) system
• develop a PACE portfolio
• implement three advocacy tools to encourage decision makers to adopt PACE
• use PACE to inform others of the SLP’s role
