This program provides an overview of current strategies for treating children who stutter and demonstrates how current research can enhance clinical practice in stuttering. Presenters develop a framework for an assessment process that facilitates formulation of treatment goals and evaluation of treatment options. Intervention options are discussed, with primary emphasis on the caseload challenges of school-based speech-language pathologists.

- translate recent research findings in the area of fluency disorders to clinical decision making
- develop a framework for the assessment of the affective, behavioral, and cognitive components of fluency disorder in children
- select options for therapeutic management that best respond to the child’s identified needs

- apply current guidelines for treatment efficacy to the assessment of treatment outcomes
