A wealth of practical information is presented to help speech-language pathologists evaluate phonological/metaphonological skills, identify optimal target patterns, and select appropriate enhancement tasks for children with highly unintelligible speech. The first part of this self-study focuses on helping children with impaired expressive phonological systems become intelligible. Because most highly unintelligible children also have difficulties in the domains of phonological awareness and emergent literacy, the second part focuses on enhancing metaphonological skills associated with emergent literacy. Videos and case examples show how these procedures may be incorporated into treatment sessions for highly unintelligible clients.
