Chief Staff Officer for Operations
Charles “Chuck” Cochran is Chief Staff Officer for Operations at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Mr. Cochran is responsible for finance, information systems, marketing and sales, the association’s member-focused call center, and facilities, which includes the recently constructed, 140,000-square-foot, Gold LEED-certified office building.
Mr. Cochran began his 30-year career in the field of association management as business manager for the National Association of College and University Business Officers in Washington, DC. He then moved to the American Council on Education (ACE), where he served as Director of Administrative Services and managed a 200,000 square foot building owned by ACE. Prior to joining ASHA, he had a very successful 10-year career with the National Governors Association, serving as the director of administration and finance and as secretary treasurer. At the National Governors Association Mr. Cochran led the accounting, human resources, meetings, corporate fellows, computer systems, office administration, and insurance departments.
Mr. Cochran received his BA in business administration and economics from Albion College in Michigan, and his MBA in finance from Northeastern University Graduate School of Business in Boston. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lt. and received the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He has been involved in many professional and community organizations, including the Sibley Hospital Board of Trustees, Leadership Montgomery, the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives, and the Washington Area Financial Management Roundtable. He is also active in the Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church, where he has chaired a variety of committees.
