The Director of Publications is responsible for managing ASHA's scholarly journals and the Association's news magazine, The ASHA Leader. The incumbent coaches two teams and directs activities supporting the planning, production, and secondary dissemination of content from the Association's scholarly journals and The ASHA Leader. The Director of Publications is responsible for developing and monitoring an annual budget for all publication's activities. The incumbent will also serve as ex officio to the Association's Publications Board and Council of Editors.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for financial management of ASHA publications, including preparation of the annual budget and monitoring expenses and revenue.
- Directs the publication of The ASHA Leader, overseeing all aspects of both the print and online publication, including the editorial calendar, news coverage, advertising, design, production, printing and mailing.
- Directs the publication of the Association's scholarly journals, implementing the editorial policies set by the Publications Board and overseeing the online production of these publications.
- Provides administrative review of the journals and Leader staff and coaches them to facilitate and enhance their work and foster their professional development.
- Plans and implements strategies to broaden dissemination to members and the general public of research published in the ASHA journals.
Qualifications
Knowledge typically acquired through:
- Degree in communications or journalism or a related discipline
- Five years experience in a similar position
- A minimum of three years supervisory experience
Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the current issues in association and scholarly journal publishing, including use of the Internet, pricing, and dissemination issues
- Demonstrated expertise in publications, including budgeting, printing, editorial and production management, and related technologies
- Demonstrated expertise facilitating the work of boards and committees
Scope and depth of non-technical skills/knowledge:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and diplomacy
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
- General knowledge of the health care, education, or other scientific disciplines
Salary: $92,796–$110,746
