Listen To Your Buds Safe Listening Event

The summer kick-off event for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Listen To Your Buds campaign succeeded beyond all expectations! With school letting out and kids about to have more time to fill summer vacation hours using ear buds and headphones to listen to music, the family event spotlighted the potential harm misuse of personal audio technology can have on hearing.

It was standing room only with kids of all ages (and their parents), enjoying a reception and concert at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in Washington, DC. Emceed by Mindy Thomas of the “Absolutely Mindy” show on SiriusXM Radio, guests enjoyed a fun performance by Grammy winner Bill Harley who weaved the important message of safe listening to personal audio technology throughout his performance. Harley belongs to the Buds Musicians Safe Listening Coalition, which includes some 60 leading artists in the world of children’s music.

Attendees also included Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association and Mitch Glazier, RIAA Senior Vice President; film and TV star Esai Morales who is also a co-founder of the National Hispanic Foundation For the Arts; and U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-MA). On the eve of the RIAA event, more than a dozen members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans, agreed to serve as honorary co-chairs of the Listen To Your Buds campaign.

Media coverage included spots on ABC Radio and Univision’s Despierta America.
