Jean Farrell and I created a staff development activity for
our elementary building. Each year our students (K-5th grade) are
given a "speech challenge" in which they are asked to
say sentences with target sounds or answer questions related to
target language goals to staff and family members. After 10
different adult signatures for 30 sentences are completed, the
students receive a reward.
Our staff has been great about helping students with their
challenge, so we decided to create a challenge for them to
celebrate May's Better Hearing and Speech. The following
paragraph describes the challenge.
Our building administration provided funds for a raffle. All
staff members were given a challenge with 15 activities (i.e.,
games and lessons for whole class/small group, websites to visit,
scavenger hunt in our office, and questions to answer) and each
activity earns them various amounts of raffle tickets. At the end
of the month, we will be collecting the challenges to determine
the number of raffle tickets for each staff member.
