BHSM Stories: D.G. Therapy Group, Inc.
D.G. Therapy Group, Inc., is a multidisciplinary therapy program that provides early intervention and school based therapy services to children 0–21 years of age who have a variety of physical and/or mental disabilities or who are at risk for developing disabilities. Center-based, home-based, and school-based therapy services are provided. Families are included in setting goals for their children, learning intervention strategies, and also have access to resources available in the center.
For 2013 Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM), D.G. Therapy Group, Inc., made a huge banner to hang in our center. The banner design is a field of flowers that the SLPs and SLPAs had their clients make. In the sky, there are clouds that contained the names of all the SLPs, SLPAs, office staff, and support staff, and in the building is our Human Resources Manager. We contacted our local newspaper and gave them ASHA's press release and some information about D.G. Therapy Group, Inc., so that our surrounding communities could learn more about speech, language, and hearing disorders.
We also downloaded all the fun resources on ASHA's website for the children to do and share with their families. We had informative handouts available for parents to read while they were waiting in the waiting room during their child's therapy time.
Our speech therapy staff was surprised and excited to receive ASHA's "How Does Your Child Hear and Talk Wheel" as a gift from D.G. Therapy Group, Inc. It has been a handy way for SLPs and SLPAs to share information with parents when they discuss the child's progress after each therapy session. SLPAs attended a workshop on May 18th sponsored by D.G. Therapy, Inc., which discussed 6 evidenced-based therapy strategies for facilitating early speech and language development.
