Oklahoma Characteristics of State Teacher Requirements

The following information summarizes the requirements currently necessary to begin work in the public school system as an:

Audiologist or Speech-Language Pathologist

The information below has been collected by researching individual state department of education regulations and policy documents, state administrative code provisions and by contacting each state department of education. Please be advised that regulations and policy may change at any time, so always check with your state department of education for the most up-to-date information.

Audiologist

No additional requirements for audiologists to provide services in schools.


Speech-Language Pathologist

Certification requires either ASHA CCC holders, or

  1. Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an approved program; and
  2. Passage of the Oklahoma Subject Area Test in Speech-Language Pathology (based on ASHA or state standards)

Continuing Education Requirement

Teaching experience in an accredited school during the validity of the certification may be used to renew a standard five year certificate. Teachers with less than three years teaching experience may substitute college coursework/clock hours as stipulated by the Oklahoma Professional Standards Board.
