The following information summarizes the requirements currently necessary to begin work in the public school system as an:
Audiologist or Speech-Language Pathologist
This information has been collected by researching individual state department of education regulations and policy documents, state administrative code provisions and by contacting each state department of education. Audiologist
State Licensure
Individuals must obtain licensure from the New Mexico Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board, which requires:
- Master's degree or equivalent degree awarded prior to January 1, 2007 and CCC
or
- Has completed the current academic, practicum and employment experience requirements for a CCC and has passed of a nationally recognized exam in audiology
or
- Doctoral degree in audiology or equivalent degree (regardless of degree name); has completed the current academic, practicum, and employment requirements for a CCC; and has passed a nationally recognized standard exam in audiology
Continuing Education Requirement
Ten clock hours of continuing education per year.
Instructional Support Provider
Individuals must obtain licensure from the New Mexico Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board, which requires:
- Master's degree or equivalent degree (regardless of degree name) and CCC
or
- Evidence of having completed the current academic, practicum, and employment experience requirements for a CCC and passage of a nationally recognized exam
Continuing Education Requirement
Ten clock hours of continuing education are required per year.

Support Personnel
Speech-language pathologist apprentices may work in schools under the supervision of a fully licensed SLP. To be licensed as a speech-language pathology apprentice an individual must:
- Have a bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology or communicative disorders or equivalent degree or a baccalaureate degree in another field with 30 semester hours of credit in speech-language pathology or communicative disorders;
- Be accepted in a master's level program within 2 years of initial licensing;
- Maintain a 3.0 in master's degree coursework;
- Be supervised by a licensed speech-language pathologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience;
and
- Must receive, as an apprentice, a minimum of 10% direct supervision and 10% indirect supervision.
