Montana Characteristics of State Teacher Requirements

The following information summarizes the requirements currently necessary to begin work in the public school system as an:

Audiologist or Speech-Language Pathologist

This information has been collected by researching individual state department of education regulations and policy documents, state administrative code provisions and by contacting each state department of education. Audiologist

New audiologist applicants providing services must have a doctorate in audiology; licensees coming to Montana by endorsement must have met the current academic, supervised clinical practicum and post-classroom sponsored employment requirements of ASHA for CCC.

Continuing Education Requirement

40 hours of Board-approved continuing education every odd numbered year

Support Personnel

Each licensed audiologist must annually register with the board all audiology aides working directly under the supervision of the licensee. The supervising licensee is responsible for ensuring that the aide is adequately trained for the tasks he/she will perform. Aides must be supervised approximately 20% of the client contact time, of which 10% must be direct contact.

Speech Language Pathologist

Speech and hearing license applicants must meet the current academic, supervised clinical practicum and post-classroom sponsored employment requirements of ASHA for the CCC.

Continuing Education Requirement

40 hours of Board-approved continuing education every odd numbered year

Speech or audiological aides must have at least a high school diploma, be trained to perform the tasks they are asked to perform, and be supervised by a fully licensed speech-language pathologist.
