Urge Congress to Include Pediatric Hearing Benefit in Health Care Reform Legislation

(09/15/2009)

Your help is needed to ensure that a comprehensive pediatric hearing benefit is preserved in the U.S. House of Representatives version of health care reform and included in the Senate version.

Currently the House's health care reform package (H.R. 3200) provides coverage of infant and child hearing services, equipment and supplies, for children up to 21 years of age. This provision is in line with ASHA's policy priorities and guidelines and can be preserved in the House version with your help.

However, the Senate has yet to name the same level of pediatric hearing services in its version of health care reform. Please contact your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators today, asking them to preserve the language in the House bill and include similar language in the pending Senate bill. Doing so will guarantee that infant and child hearing needs are not overlooked. Should you have any questions about this benefit or health care reform in general, please contact Ingrida Lusis, ASHA's Director of Federal and Political Advocacy, at ilusis@asha.org or 202-624-5951.
