Therapy Cap Repeal Legislation Introduced in Congress

(01/12/2009)

Senator John Ensign (R-NV) and Representative Xavier Becerra (D-CA) recently introduced the Medicare Access to Rehabilitation Services Act (S. 46/H.R. 43) that would repeal the Medicare Part B therapy caps. The current therapy cap exceptions process is set to expire December 31, 2009. Please contact your members of Congress and request that they become co-sponsors of this important legislation on ASHA's Take Action Web site.

In the Senate, eleven Senators signaled bi-partisan support for the legislation by signing on as original co-sponsors; they were Daniel Akaka (D-HI), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Robert Casey (D-PA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). The House bill was introduced with two original co-sponsors: Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Mike Ross (D-AR).

We need your help to begin work on gaining more co-sponsors for these bills. For additional information, please contact Ingrida Lusis, ASHA's Director of Federal and Political Advocacy, at ilusis@asha.org or 800-498-2071, ext. 5610.
