In an effort to address an immediate and critical need for doctoral-level personnel in the area of sensory disabilities, the Department of Education's (ED) Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) is inviting institutions of higher education to apply for the fiscal year (FY) 2009 Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children With Disabilities–Leadership Preparation in Sensory Disabilities competition.
The purpose of this program is to fund a consortium that will prepare leaders at the doctoral level to work in the special education field with a specialty in sensory disabilities including deaf-blindness, and deafness and hard-of-hearing. The deadline for transmittal for applications is August 24, 2009. ASHA members employed in institutions of higher education (IHEs) may find this of particular interest as eligible applicants are IHEs.
For more information contact Catherine D. Clarke, ASHA's Director of Education and Regulatory Advocacy, via e-mail at cclarke@asha.org or by phone at 800-498-2071, ext. 5611.
