Hearing Aid Tax Credit Legislation Introduced, Co-Sponsors Needed

(03/26/2009)

Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) has introduced H.R. 1646, the Hearing Aid Assistance Tax Credit Act of 2009, which was introduced with 37 original co-sponsors and has bi-partisan support. Please Take Action by contacting your U.S. Representative and requesting that they co-sponsor and support H.R. 1646.

Hearing aids are not covered under the Medicare program or by many health insurance plans. In most cases, the entire burden of a hearing aid purchase is placed on the consumer. While not intended to cover the full cost of the hearing aid, the legislation does provide a measure of monetary support to those who are in need of the devices, but are in need of financial assistance in order to obtain them. Studies have shown that the use of hearing aids improves an individual's quality of life.
