What is the HES?
The Higher Education Data System (HES) is an innovative, centralized, Web-based system that collects data from academic programs in communication sciences and disorders (CSD). The HES
- facilitates online data collection for surveys and accreditation reports (instruments);
- provides search capabilities through EdFind;
- provides a systematic format for compiling data for the discipline.
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD), and the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) worked collaboratively to design and develop the HES.
Why was the HES developed?
There was no single comprehensive system to collect and report this critical data in a centralized, uniform, and consistent manner...until the HES.
Each year, ASHA, CAPCSD, and CAA receive numerous requests for data about CSD programs at all degree levels from academic programs, state and federal agencies, researchers, and students. As a result, academic programs complete numerous surveys from several sources annually—increasing the reporting burden to each of these three agencies and leading to redundancy in reporting the same data multiple times.
What is EdFind?
EdFind is ASHA's public search engine for learning about graduate programs in CSD. It offers convenient searches on academic programs at the master's and doctoral levels. EdFind helps locate specific programs, differentiate search results, and generate customized CSD program lists. EdFind allows students and other users (anyone, in fact) to locate programs from a set of search criteria based on their individual needs and assists them in finding the information that they need at no charge.
How do I get to EdFind?
Visit EdFind and select either the master's or doctoral program search interface to begin a program search.
