Costa Rica Exchange Program

I am the director of an academic program in speech-language pathology for undergraduate and graduate students at the Universidad Santa Paula in Costa Rica. The university has 2,500 students and is the only one in the area to offer this program. There are five departments: audiology, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, physical therapy, and respiratory therapy. We also offer several master's degree programs, including an MSc in early stimulation and an MSc in palliative care.

We have about 400 students in our licensing programs. Students complete part of their practica at a university clinic that provides services to the community, and there are many other settings in which students can complete practicum training.

I would like to develop an exchange program with any institution interested in providing bilingual training for its students. We are interested in developing an exchange program so our students can go to the United States for a semester or quarter to practice English and/or take a communication disorder course, and U.S. students can come to Costa Rica and practice their Spanish to become proficient in the language in preparation for certification as bilingual English-Spanish SLPs. Students also may be interested in a supervised clinical practicum in Costa Rica. If you are interested in this opportunity to experience another culture, please contact me at nnaranjo@uspsantapaula.com or ninaranjo@yahoo.com.
