I was very pleased to read the article "National Children's Summit Features SLP," which talks about recommendations for early intervention. I was, however, distressed to see that the recommendations did not include standardizing eligibility for early intervention across states. At this time, eligibility criteria range from a delay of just a couple of months all the way up to a 50% delay, depending on which state a family lives in. Families typically are not aware of these differences and it isn’t a good feeling to tell a family who just moved to your state that their child is no longer eligible to receive services because of the criteria.
