Kudos to letters by my colleagues Stephen Sacks ("The Elephant in the Room," May 29, 2007) and Pam Marshalla ("A Travesty," July 17, 2007), which raise awareness about the disturbing trend in our profession away from the treatment of speech disorders, most specifically, articulation disorders.
Marshalla concluded that "If we do not help clients with speech sound errors, nobody will." Here's another possible scenario: If we don't help these clients, then another profession will step up to what had been "our" plate.
