I had occasion to bid farewell to a friend and colleague recently. Her name was Lani Reasoner. That moment led to reflection: so many things are cyclic. One is our profession's cycle: There were ample graduates for jobs at the clinical/university levels; now, not so. The young post-graduates of yesterday are moving out of today's jobs into tomorrow's projects. Challenges abound during our sojourn on earth. Like Lani, some do not survive some challenges too early in their lives. Yet how lucky she was to use that time she had well. I think speech-language pathologists are blessed. We try to help people, have a good time doing it, and make enough money to live on. Lani and others like her used their intellect and skill to make a difference. Good works outlive our brief moment in time.
