I read with interest the recent articles in The ASHA Leader written by Gail Venable and her brother Colin Portnuff. I appreciate his willingness to be so forthcoming about his disease and his first-hand account of the pros and cons of several AAC devices. His comments are so very helpful to those of us, like me, who are novices in the area of AAC.
I also appreciated the article about the right questions to ask. The thoughtful questions really got me thinking. Perhaps if we all thought of our clients as a family member, we might approach our therapy with a little more compassion and foresight before barreling into our laundry list of therapy goals.
