The letter, "Seeking Emeritus Status," in the May 2, 2006, issue must have been an affirmation for many members.
Having had a great 35-year career in a public school setting and having been a member of ASHA with CCCs for 29 consecutive years, I was appalled to learn that I would "lose" my CCCs unless I maintained full membership (dues and continuing education requirements) for the next eight years until reaching the age requirement of 65. I worked too hard years ago to obtain those CCCs and assumed that they would be mine for life. ASHA, please reconsider requirements to honor your membership, reflective of all job settings.
