The ASHA Leader OnlineLETTERS

Corporate Speech

I want to thank you for publishing Barbara Christensen's article, "Corporate Speech-Language Pathology: Is It Right For You?" in the January 2006 issue. Reading this article started a chain of events that led me to realize how wonderful it is to be part of an organization made up of such supportive colleagues. When the article was published, I had just begun an independent study at UNC-Greensboro with Dr. Celia Hooper focusing on education and intervention for the professional voice user. After the article was published, she encouraged me to make contact with Ms. Christensen. I was surprised at how enthusiastic Ms. Christensen was and how much information she was willing to share with me. In addition, she directed me to contact other SLPs who provide corporate services. I contacted Corspan president, Dale Klein, past-president Shelly Wallace, and founder Katie Schwartz. Each of these professionals spent over an hour talking with me and sharing insight into corporate speech. Following this experience I am excited to begin my career as an SLP.
