Thank you for publishing the article, "Education Funding Cuts Will Affect Staff, Students," in the March 21 issue about the negative impact of President Bush's administration on services in public schools. As an SLP working in the public school system, I am appalled at the number of educators who are supporting politicians whose agendas are destructive to quality education for everyone in our country except the most wealthy.
There are important elections coming up this fall. Unfortunately, too many people don't vote at all, or only vote when there is a presidential election. We have an opportunity to replace those who purport to be education advocates with people who will truly support education instead of issuing unfunded mandates. Please don't be fooled by rhetoric. Look at the voting records of your representatives. There are many sites available on the Internet to do this. One place where you can find out how your senators and representatives voted is the National Education Association Web site. If you care about the work we do, this is no time to be complacent.
