The ASHA Leader Online LETTERS

Center in India Seeks Donations

Sethu, a child development and family guidance center, was started on June 1, 2005. We are a charitable trust that includes a developmental and behavioral pediatrician, special educator, psychologist, office administrator, and a speech-language pathologist. We work with children with a range of developmental, physical, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral difficulties.

Since our inception, Sethu has registered 258 new cases with a majority of children being diagnosed with autism and learning disabilities. Our primary focus is children with autism and helping them learn with their peers. With this in mind, Sethu runs an integrated preschool education program called "Tarang" for children with developmental disabilities. We also network with other schools in the state, providing on-site training and consultation. We hope to strengthen and promote inclusive education in preschools.

One consistent hurdle is the lack of standardized culturally appropriate tests as well as easily available funds to purchase state of the art test materials from other countries.

This letter is to request any child development center to please consider sending Sethu any resources that are not of use to them. We are in much need of children's books, art and craft items, picture cards, games, tests assessing language-related difficulties, etc. Visit our Web site and e-mail me at anjali@sethu.in.

Sethu would like to extend an invitation to anyone visiting Goa to visit us. Our postal address is: Sethu Child Development & Family Guidance Centre, 1st Floor Fredrica Apts, Caculo Colony, Miramar, Goa, India 403001.
