Thanks to ASHA for your efforts in making changes in the new IDEA bill. The Web site makes it so easy to send letters and comments to my legislators. I look forward to using it while the Senate addresses H.R. 1350.
I will always feel disappointed for the children receiving substandard service from unqualified and unlicensed/uncertified personnel. It is enraging that so few ASHA members took advantage of the Web site legislative contact system this week. Out of approximately 90,000 members, only 1,000 participated. Since most of the membership will be impacted by this legislation, it is a huge surprise to discover such apathy.
Our members have been asking for support to help secure their positions and reduce caseloads. ASHA has certainly supported this effort with manpower, tools to help us reach our legislators with little effort, and the huge cost of lobbying. It seems that individual clinicians need to uphold their responsibility by taking an active role to justify ASHA's lobbying effort.
