Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29 with catastrophic results. The high winds and flooding caused loss of life, displacement, family stress, joblessness, and personal and state financial hardships in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
The faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University extends our deepest gratitude to the many organizations and individuals involved in the hurricane relief efforts. We have heard from friends and colleagues across the country with offers of support and resources for our faculty, students and colleagues in need. We want to especially recognize the generosity of the members of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Executive Board, Legislative Council, and other volunteer leaders and staff. Your financial commitment will help individuals affected by this tragedy resume their professional lives as smoothly as possible.
Our recovery is still far from over, and our thoughts continue to be for the safety and well being of our friends and families who are coping with the aftermath of this tragedy and with those who are working to provide relief. Thank you friends, colleagues, and ASHA for your continued support!
