Christine Donatone-congratulations on writing an articulate letter that expressed what many of the public school SLPs have shared with me. I couldn't agree more with your conclusions. I asked myself the same questions and definitely identify with your sense of disappointment and discouragement. Those of us in the California public school system pay an enormous membership fee to our teacher's union/association-but we see results: increase in wages, medical benefits, improvement in work sites, etc. ASHA has contributed little toward securing these benefits for me. I'm with you-I agree that the membership needs to begin a dialogue!
