Recognizing Catherine Chamberlain

I appreciate being included in the special section of the Nov. 2, 2004 issue recognizing professional achievements.

Although I was nominated as a 2004 State Clinical Achievement Awardee for the ASHFoundation DiCarlo Award, it was in conjunction with and support of Catherine E. Chamberlain. Kentucky actually awarded the Clinical Achievement Award to the two of us. Unfortunately, the ASHFoundation only allows one nominee to go forward as the DiCarlo nominee and Catherine unselfishly supported my nomination.

Catherine was awarded by Kentucky for her "creativity and activism in developing and widely disseminating a research-based protocol for treatment of childhood Verbal Apraxia and for providing ongoing training to other professionals at the local, state, and national level." In addition, she has written numerous books and treatment programs on oral motor facilitation of speech skills, concept development, voice, and Down Syndrome. She is a creative and extremely talented clinician out in the trenches, working with children who have the most severe speech-language and developmental issues.
