Scholarly Journals

ASHA’s scholarly journals, which fall under the purview of the Publications Board, are:

  • Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (JSLHR), formerly the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research
  • Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools (LSHSS)
  • American Journal of Audiology: A Journal of Clinical Practice (AJA)
  • American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology: A Journal of Clinical Practice (AJSLP)
The mission statement and publication schedule for each of the journals follows:

JSLHR is an archival research publication that includes papers pertaining to the processes and disorders of hearing, language, and speech, and to the diagnosis and treatment of such disorders. Manuscripts may take any of the following forms: reports of original research, including single-subject experiments; theoretical or review articles; tutorials; research notes; and letters to the editor. JSLHR is published every other month, in February, April, June, August, October, and December and is available online at http://jslhr.asha.org.

LSHSS pertains to speech, hearing, and language services for children and adolescents, particularly as provided by clinicians working in schools. Contributed manuscripts may deal with all aspects of clinical services to children, including the nature, assessment, and remediation of speech, hearing, and language disorders; program organization, management, and supervision; and scholarly discussion of philosophical issues relating to school programming. LSHSS is published quarterly in January, April, July, and October and is available online at http://lshss.asha.org.

AJA and AJSLP pertain to all aspects of clinical practice. Submissions may consider such topics as screening, assessment, and treatment techniques; prevention; professional issues; supervision; and administration. Contributed manuscripts may take the form of clinical forums, clinical observations and case studies, descriptive papers, tutorials, reviews, letters to the editor, and research reports that emphasize clinical practice. AJA is published in June and December and is available online at http://aja.asha.org. AJSLP is published four times a year in February, May, August, and November and is available online at http://ajslp.asha.org.
