  • ASHA's Medicaid Side by Side (member benefit)
    ASHA has created an easy-to-follow, side-by-side guide with accessible information on important topics such as eligibility requirements, provider qualifications, supervision and documentation requirements, student confidentiality and so much more.   • IDEA Issue Brief on Uses of Special Education Funds Available
    ASHA has prepared an IDEA issue brief on "Uses of Special Education Funds" to further assist members in the application of the 2006 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B final regulations. Continue to check this Web site for further updates on IDEA.   • ED Submits 27th Annual Report to Congress on the Implementation of IDEA
    The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS), submitted to Congress its 27th annual report on the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Parts B and C. The purpose of this 27th annual report is to provide an overview of national activities to improve the education of children with disabilities funded under IDEA in FY2005.   • States Receive $14 Million under NCLB and IDEA
    The US Dept. of Education has awarded $14 million in grants to 27 states to help develop appropriate assessments tools for a limited number of students nationwide who are unable to perform on the general assessments. Funds will be allocated to:
    • Development of modified or alternate academic achievement standards
    • State assessments based on the new standards
    • Development of guidelines for IEP teams to id appropriate students for inclusion in the alternate/modified academic achievement standards
    • Training of IEP teams on the new guidelines
  • 2007 Math and Reading Report Cards Released
    The National Assessment of Educational Progress has released its 2007 results from testing 700,000 4th and 8th grade students across the US. For more information, contact Catherine Clarke at cclarke@asha.org.

  • ASHA's Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology Has Been Revised!
    Updates to ASHA's Scope of Practice document include acknowledgement of roles and responsibilities that were not mentioned in previous iterations (e.g., funding issues, marketing of services, focus on emergency responsiveness, communication wellness). The revised document also was framed squarely on two guiding principles: evidence-based practice and cultural and linguistic diversity.
  • HES and EdFind Have Been Launched!
    The Higher Education Data System (HES) system is a collaborative effort of ASHA, CAPCSD, and CAA to facilitate comprehensive and consistent data collection and dissemination. Survey completion is critical to ensure all programs are reflected in reports and trends analysis in CSD. Program data and characteristics submitted via the HES will appear in EdFind, the new online search engine for academic programs. EdFind replaces ASHA's online Grad Guide and allows students and others to search for and learn about academic programs in CSD. For more information, please contact us at hes@asha.org.
