  • IDEA 2004 Proposed Rules Expected this Month
    Public Meetings Announced
    ASHA is preparing to submit comments on the proposed regulations for IDEA '04. Talking points will also be available for members interested in participating in the public hearings.
  • ED Secretary Announces "Common Sense" Approach to Implement No Child Left Behind Law
    The following link displays a U. S. Department of Education press release issued on April 7, 2005.
  • Arkansas Authorizes a Salary Supplement for School-Based SLPs
    HB 1622, signed by the governor in March 2005, includes language which states that ASHA's CCC is equal to or exceeds that of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification. The Arkansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association partnered with the Arkansas Department of Special Education to turn the passage of this legislation, as indicated in ASHA's April 2005 GRPP Update.

    This language may be useful to other states and local districts interested in pursuing salary supplement. Read the Arkansas law [PDF] in its entirety.
  • Check out the results of the State Policy Workshop!
    This event was held on May 12-13, 2005 in Minneapolis. State Association leaders learned about the impact of IDEA '04 on the professions, how the early intervention and Birth to Six programs will be affected and how state associations and members can work with ASHA to address the impact of IDEA '04 on school-based practice. Learn more about what your state association can do for you.
