ASHA Announces Video Contest For Better Hearing and Speech Month

Association Uses YouTube to Raise Awareness About Communication Disorders

(Rockville, MD - April 2, 2009) The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) today launched the Make Your Own Video Contest to encourage individuals to use YouTube for sharing inspirational stories relating to speech, language, and hearing during ASHA's annual May is Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM) campaign.

The contest runs until midnight April 29, 2009, and full entry details can be found online at ASHA's Web site. Videos should be no longer than 3 minutes and can be posted on the YouTube BHSM site. Videos will be judged on originality and creativity, aesthetic appeal, and content. The winner will receive $300 cash. There will be two runners-up, each of whom will receive $50 cash. Winners will be notified via e-mail by May 1, 2009, and will be announced on the BHSM Web page on that date. The winning video will be featured on the ASHA Web site during May.

The video contest is a new addition to the BHSM campaign's diverse range of activities that ASHA undertakes annually, in conjunction with Better Hearing and Speech Month, to promote awareness of communication disorders and the professions and services that can help address them.
