(Rockville, MD - April 1, 2009) The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is one of nineteen businesses to receive the first EcoLeadership Award from Alliance for Workplace Excellence. ASHA has also received the Alliance's Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval, an honor given to ASHA every year since that award's inception in 1999. In addition, ASHA has now won its third consecutive Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award, which was first issued by the Alliance in 2006.
The EcoLeadership Award honors companies that recognize the importance of environmental sustainability by demonstrating commitment to practices such as waste minimization, energy demand and supply, water conservation, and employee engagement and communication.
The Workplace Excellence and Health & Wellness Trailblazer Awards highlight businesses that promote professional fulfillment and personal wellness at work, at home, and in the community. Winners are chosen based on criteria such as supportive corporate culture and management practices, family and employee friendly policies and practices, strong employee health and wellness initiatives, comprehensive growth and learning opportunities, and demonstration to corporate social responsibility and employee volunteerism.
According to the Alliance, all award applicants undergo a rigorous assessment process led by an independent review panel.
"The many workplace programs ASHA offers contributes to the overall well-being of our employees," ASHA Executive Director Arlene Pietranton says. "By helping our employees live healthy and satisfied lives, they can be more productive and in turn serve our members more effectively."
Award winners will be honored during a ceremony on June 3 held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. More than 600 business executives are expected to attend the event, and a total of 66 awardees will be recognized.
