Make your summer a memorable one by visiting your federal legislators locally during their August recess period. Face-to-face meetings with members of Congress are the best way to change public policy. If you work in a private practice and would like to bill Medicare directly, this is your opportunity to advocate for it.
ASHA can provide you with all the information you need to facilitate a successful meeting, such as contact information for your legislator, guidance on how to schedule a meeting, talking points on the issue, and suggestions for productive follow-up. Additionally, ASHA will be conducting a web-enhanced telephone training seminar during the first week of August for those who have scheduled appointments to meet with their elected officials. Participation in the seminar along with local district office visits qualify for ASHA CEUs.
The schedule of the United States Congress includes August as a district work period to give constituents an opportunity to meet with their members of Congress without having to travel to Washington, DC. Every member of the House of Representatives and Senate has a local office. Make this August your opportunity to visit them and make a difference in your profession.
ASHA is only as powerful as our individual members. We need you to become a leader in your community and in your profession. If you are interested and would like additional information, please visit ASHA's Make a Visit Web page or contact Deborah Darcy, ASHA's Director of Grassroots Advocacy, via e-mail at ddarcy@asha.org or by phone at 800-498-2071, ext. 4427.
