Speech-language pathologists and audiologists now have a new resource at their fingertips to help understand the differences between federal Medicaid and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations. This new web-based resource, ASHA's Medicaid/IDEA Side-by-Side, will provide easy to access information on such areas as provider qualifications, supervision requirements, documentation requirements, and patient confidentiality. In addition, the Side-by-Side offers links to relevant resources on ASHA's Web site.
ASHA's Medicaid/IDEA Side-by-Side was developed in response to member requests for additional information about the federal programs as well as frustrations expressed by school-based members regarding the lack of clarity about these two federal programs' requirements. The document was designed to be a quick reference for ASHA members and an educational tool for school administrators when referencing speech-language pathology and audiology services. For additional information about the analysis or policy related questions, please contact Ingrida Lusis, ASHA's Director of Health Care Regulatory Advocacy, by e-mail at ilusis@asha.org.
