September means back to school time. Yet, we also want our legislators in Washington, DC to know that it is time to back our schools with federal legislation and programs that advance the interests of our students and professions. While August was an exciting month with over 11,000 e-mails sent by ASHA members to the United States Congress on health care related issues, this fall there are some pressing and important education issues that need your urgent attention.
ASHA's Vice President for Governmental and Social Policies, DeAnne Wellman Owre, a school-based speech-language pathologist, is leading this campaign by writing to members to announce weekly campaigns.
You can participate in this campaign by contacting your Congressional leaders and asking them to support ASHA issues. Click on the link, fill in your contact information on the right, and then hit the "Send Message." The e-mail will be sent to your elected officials. It's an easy and quick way to let your voice be heard!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Neil Snyder, ASHA's Director of Federal Advocacy, by e-mail at nsnyder@asha.org or by phone at 800-498-2071, ext. 4257.
